How does narrative theory apply to my trailer?

I will be talking about my summer trailer that me and my group created. We aimed for this to be a Slasher. In this essay I will discuss whether the trailer is successfully or not according to the narrative theory.


One of the reasons my trailer wasn't successful was because it didn't have structure like the equilibrium, disequilibrium that Todorov mentioned the reason I didn't include the others like recognition, action, restoration is because these different parts/sections are for the actual film in the trailer it is essential we don't give much away. Although we didn't use much equilibrium and for disequilibrium an example of this from our trailer would be the scene which was exposed to high key lighting and contrasts this using low key lighting.


Secondly the other important factor that didn't lead my trailer to success was the use of binary opposites as in this day and age we are obsessed with things like good and bad. In my trailer we did have the idea of the villain and the victim but didn't think to have a hero. Watching the trailer would lead you to the conclusion that the killer was one of the teenagers. Levi Strauss was right to come up with this theory as he picked up on the fact that we as humans like conflict which takes place between opposites and draws the audience in.

    There is no use of paragraphs here or the essay plan structure given

(E) HOW did you EDIT it to NOT follow this structure and WHY?

Dawn of the dead June 29 1980 Zack Synder Zombie The first scene shows a moon that basically covers 3/4 this is effective as darkness is taking over the world leading the viewers to the assumption that evil near. This could be considered as a warning sign. Another thing I notice is that when the woman screams the audience start to question what is going on, however when the man screams it’s almost as if the zombies have stripped him of his masculinity. This further suggests that zombies (similar to vampires) are a sexual representations which could link to religious points of all. Representation: Final Girl Refers to the last woman alive to confront the killer. Film examples include Alien released on the 12 May 2017 and Halloween released on the 26 October 2012. The final girl is usually pure/virgin who the killer doesn’t come for because she has not done anything or should I say taken part in the sexual nature which has become the norm in modern society. The final girl commonly appears in Slasher horror movies with teenagers and the main theme is teen punishment but for the final girl does not need to be because she is innocent as a result the girl is spared. This girl is spared as intelligent and intellectual in comparison to those around her, which are the other key stock characters for example the dub blonde, the jock, the wanderer and . The final girl is usually the hero if she if not her then it is the jock. She is seen as attractive and the damsel in distress which enables the audience to sympathize with her as she is portrayed to be weak and vulnerable
